Design

I design web sites that emphasize ease-of-navigation and clear communication over fancy gimmicks. That's the essence of the Simply Effective way. No Flash movies here, just the kind of web site that helps people get the information they want, quickly and easily. The kind of site that makes you think, "Hey -- now that's the way the web is supposed to work!"

Objectives

The first thing we'll do is establish the objectives you have for a web site:

  • Do you just need a presence on the web to augment your listing in the phone book?
  • Do you want to connect potential supporters with your nonprofit's mission and accomplishments?
  • Do you want your web site to help convert referrals into paying customers?
  • Do you need a detailed online catalog?
  • What aspects of your operation can you simplify or enhance through your new web site?

Two Key Deliverables

With your objectives clearly established, we'll sketch out the design of a web site that will meet them. In parallel, we'll work on the visual appearance of your new web site and we'll structure the information content. We'll probably revise each a few times along the way, but before long, we'll have two key deliverables from the design process:

  • a site map, defining the "depth" of the site and the navigation plan
  • a visual prototype, illustrating the "look and feel" of the site

Your objectives and the decisions represented in these two documents dictate the complexity of the content development and construction work of the next phase. We will exit the Design phase with a clear fix on the costs and time required to launch your new site. Our review "gate" at this time will formalize our understanding, and your approval will authorize me to undertake the work of the Development phase.
