Development

With an agreed-upon site map and visual prototype in hand from the Design phase, the content development and page construction work of the Development phase can proceed surprisingly quickly.

Content development is typically a joint responsibility: some bits must come from you and the experts in your organization, but I can do a surprising amount on your behalf. Acting as reporter, editor, and even photographer, I can gather information, organize it, and synthesize it into a coherent whole. Image: Development Process It's my willingness and ability to do all that and bring you an almost-finished product for review that makes me unique among web developers. Too many will tell you that "all you have to do is create the content and I'll build the site." But writing all the content takes precious time and energy ...and that's how so many web projects get bogged down!

The work of this phase also includes the development of a number of graphical elements. At a minimum, your existing logo and other visual elements need to be adapted for the web. If you need a new logo, I can help you with that. And the visual prototype we've developed will certainly have some elements that are unique to your new web site: buttons, banners, and other graphical bits. And there are the photos to scan, crop, color correct, and resize. All of these bits need to be harmonized to work together, and each needs to be optimized so that your site's pages load quickly.

As for the page construction itself, I rely on a proven set of tools and techniques that let me handle that work smoothly and swiftly. I'll develop a set of templates that will not only make your pages look consistent, but will make it easier for us to grow your site as your needs change.
